Last night, I got two new kids placed with me. They arrived dirty and wearing shoes that didn’t fit. I was told they hadn’t eaten in three days, so I fed them and gave them extra snacks to take to bed.
Today, I took them shopping for clothes and shoes. The twelve-year-old kept passing by a pair of Nike shoes, but I could tell he wasn’t picking them because they were too expensive.
I grabbed the shoes and told him I wanted him to have a nice pair for school, so he should get them.
Right there in the store, he started crying, and I couldn’t hold back my tears either.
Being a foster parent allows me to experience moments like this that others might not see.
